Copywriter or Brand Designer?
How did I end up being a brand designer and what should I call myself now?A copywriter or a brand designer?
So, between being a copywriter I also attended a workshop where I learned and brushed up my graphic designing skills.
Eventually, I did some amazing projects during the workshop and learned quite a lot.
One day, I posted all my designs on my art Instagram page.
Someone from my contacts was impressed and she gave me the project to make a logo for her business.
1st lesson: Show off your best work and never shy away from it.
You use social media to showcase your work and attract your clients.
It is not for your friends or family because they aren’t your targetted audience you wish to work for.
So don’t think twice before sharing your work. Just keep sharing and promoting yourself and your work.
It will help you in the long run.
At first, I was skeptical if I could pull this project off.
Should I pass on this project to someone who would do a better job?
Come on, making a logo is not a joke. It’s a brand identity, and a lot goes into building a brand image and crafting a logo.
But then, something in me wanted to give this a try and I took up the challenge.
I had no clue where to start.
But as a copywriter, I knew I had to know the brand and the idea behind the brand.
And, this would help me start somewhere.
I needed to know the brand's story and the business's emotions. The why behind the business.
So I formed some questions that will help me understand the idea behind the business and the emotions that the owner wanted to target.
2nd Lesson: Every skill you have, every skill or knowledge you have invested in will always help you and back you up.
So never underestimate any of your skills, talents, or knowledge. They all come to rescue you when you need help.
This was a home-based bakery brand.
The owner of this brand had tried to make her logo earlier and was disappointed with the kind of logos she was presented.
She wanted something unique and different that represented her logo's idea and story.
A baking brand that doesn’t use artificial colors, is more inclined towards healthy baking and tries out every sweet dish the baker can try out.
My questionnaire helped me bring out the pieces to form the logo she was looking for.
And, guess what after all the trial and error I have created a whole brand identity for a brand. And, I got paid for it. (Not much or anything near as a brand designer.)
But it boosted my confidence to do things that I have always been running away from.
I wanted to share the end result in pictures but somehow—beehiiv doesn’t have the option to attach some pictures.
Lesson 3: Never underestimate yourself.
Try and fail, but never give up even before giving it a try.
