A story about Resilience...

How did I end up being here?

Born in a typical asian Indian family, all a woman is expected to learn to cook, mend, and clean, along with completing your studies.

But being ambitious and career-oriented shouldn’t be your thing.

Why?

Because after you get married, you just need to babysit your husband and take over the household chores.

Dreams?

Wishes?

Bucket lists?

What’s that?

Women are the epitome of sacrifice and compromise, adjusting by giving their all… They lose themselves, even their identity.

Watching all this, I didn’t want to end up like this.

I wanted to build something for myself and, most importantly, become financially independent.

But how?

I wasn’t allowed to do a job.

I finished my post-graduation degree in the year 2019.

Post that I had no clue what I should do to gain my financial independence?

What should I build for myself?

I have been blogging since 2013; however, they were mere journal entries.

Perhaps, I used to work as a content writer for a women-oriented blog and get paid for it in the year 2014.

So, I did have experience in writing content, but not like writing SEO content.

I did a bit of research on how to earn as a blogger, and that’s when I came across affiliate marketing, SEO waiting and slowly ventured into the whole world of digital marketing and freelancing.

This is when I came across a lot of freelancers making money online.

I started applying for courses and jumped from one course to another, thinking it would help me to gain more and more knowledge.

If only I could go back in time and build a portfolio, build in public, and create my personal brand, I would have been in a better place today.

However, better late than never.

Although doing courses and just giving a 10% try, and meeting failures had drained me out.

I then kind of gave up and just paid attention to my Instagram art page.

I am an artist, a writer, someone who is mediocre with designs, can get better with it if given the right guidance, and with practice. (We will get there in the next newsletter.)

However, in September 2024, something changed in me. I wanted to give freelancing and building my brand a new try.

Someone approached me on Instagram through my contacts, saying they need someone who can help them become a DM closer.

A Dm closer is someone who gets a client on board for a service exchange.

I was given some YouTube videos to refer to, and I thought of giving it a shot.

However, somehow I stumbled upon copywriting, and that took my interest.

I started watching videos, reading, practicing on Twitter, and even served my 3 beta clients.

Beta clients are clients who let you do a service for them in exchange for a testimonial.

Here is the link you can refer to see my copywriting portfolio and previous work.

Things were going fine till January hit and I started noticing something.

The stagnant, I wasn’t moving forward…

Why?

Because just tweeting 3 times a week wasn’t helping, and I again was getting distracted…

In December, I got into a course that helped me to understand graphic design better.

And now I want to pivot to a complete brand strategist with copywriting and design skills.

But…

I was finding things difficult, and with the artist within me always craving to paint and chill…

It wasn’t easy to balance out…

But…but…but…

Something happened by January that still gives me hope and is like a calling…

That is a story for next Wednesday.

Till then, stay healthy and keep yourself sane enough to work for your dreams.
